Barb observing the Sculpture
The Rembrandt 400 year was officially opened on 20 December 2005 by Laetitia Griffith, Alderwoman of Financial Affairs. To mark the opening, a group of bronze sculptures representing the figures from Rembrandt's masterpiece, Nightwatch, were unveiled on the Rembrandtplein, a well-known square in the centre of Amsterdam.
Measuring 11x7x5 metres and weighing 8000kg, the figures took five years to complete and were made by Russian artists, Mikhail Dronov and Alexander Taratynov.
