Early morning stroll with the dogs

Sunday 27 July 2008 in Tempelhof, Berlin
On the street opposite the Hotel, Luise-Henriette Strasse 4
Later we all went for a short stroll ourselves for breakfast near where this photograph was taken. It appeared to be the only place open early and had people dropping by for take away coffees and food as well as having patrons inside. The guy in the shop had to ask the only customer then, if he spoke English to handle my query.
The food was OK, lots of pasteries along with scrambled eggs on a bun, which is what Barb had. Coffee was bearable and after breakfast we took it easy with a walk through the park I had wandered through earlier. After signing out we caught the U-Bahn to the Hauptbanhof or Central Train Station. (Jo and Andrew, from Yi and Roger's group from London traveled with us part of the way). With a 1pm departure back to Amsterdam, we bought some rolls, pasteries and drinks to eat on board.

On the journey back, the train airconditioning broke down again a number of times but Ray had a seat right at the back in the rear carriage, which had a top slot window you could open. This position came about through a muck up of our tickets. We thought we had reserved seats on this carriage but, after a discussion and checking of tickets with these other contestants for the same seats, we discovered we were mistakenly booked for the day before. Oh dear, down to the end carriages we went. The carriages at the end of the train were for non reserved seats so we did some seat hopping as people got off (and on) at various stations and we ended up with forward facing seats, Barb and Jeantine together initially with myself at this rear seat. Later we were able to grab seats with a table between and played cards for awhile. We had to keep playing Jeantine's game until Barb won a hand.
